Traditional African Clay Udu Drum
Originating with the Igbo people of Nigeria, the udu drum was traditionally made by women potters as a water jug before its musical potential was discovered. This handmade clay vessel features a side hole that creates a distinctive deep, resonant bass tone when struck with the palm, while the top opening and body surface produce a range of bright, percussive accents.
Each udu is wheel-thrown from natural terracotta clay and kiln-fired at high temperatures for durability. The unglazed finish provides excellent grip and a warm, organic aesthetic.
Dimensions: 12 inches tall × 9 inches wide. Weight: 2.1 kg. Recommended skill level: Intermediate.
